Clarification... As if I am even obligated.
In regard to my last post, it seems some clarification is needed.
Lecturing for 50 minutes is not what I meant...
Poor teachers teach to get paid. They give boring assignments that take up the entirety of a period, they make their students do all the work, and they don't care if their students actually learn something. They cover their own asses, to put it in layman's terms.
What I did mean is: To teach effectively, not that I am any sort of expert, you must TEACH. Giving a worksheet, making students copy notes, having the students involved in some sort of activity, or simply talking, for an entire class period, is not effective. You must combine all of the above and relate the material to the students. You must make a boring subject interesting. My way, in achieving all of this, is to tell a story. A story that is not only relatable to a child's everyday life, but a story that is interesting, entertaining, and educational all at the same time. Then, in some way, assess that material presented. If it is not absorbed, tell another story, do another activity, or make that assessment easier or more relatable. Then, repeat. Repitition is key, especially in the minds of the students that we are working with. Ask a question. Ask the same question to another student. Ask it again to a different student. It is time consuming, but it is hard for us to make up for failed lessons and years lost due to ineffective teachers.
Make information obtainable, absorbable, and relatable.
This WILL work for everybody.
